OVERTRADING

October 10, 2025

i had what would become the single biggest one-day loss of my career

i lost eight figures in minutes due to systemic failures on the biggest CEXs, and to this day, no one has taken accountability for what happened

my losses made headlines and became one of the biggest stories to come out of that day

but what many people don't know is what happened in the weeks and months that followed

i lost several million more

and i did it by making one of the biggest mistakes traders like me tend to make:

OVERTRADING

in hindsight, i would have been far better off shutting everything down for the next few months or even quarters

i probably would have become a much better trader if i had simply stayed away from the computer for at least six months

but a part of me was desperate for action

a part of me wanted to make it all back

a part of me wanted to prove that i still had what it takes and that i would get back on my feet

i wanted to 'work'

and sitting back, doing nothing, and staying away from the computer for a prolonged period didn't feel like work

except that, for a trader, being AFK can sometimes be the most important work you do

one of the biggest mistakes i made — and that many traders make — is assuming that skill, experience, and process are enough to consistently outperform the market

they aren't

believe it or not, successful trading is often a combination of skill, favorable market conditions, timing, and luck

as a Christian, i attribute the 'luck' component to GOD's blessings and favor rather than sheer luck

but the underlying principle remains the same:

our biggest wins often come from combining a solid process with being in the right place at the right time

sometimes, that means catching a single exceptional trade

other times, it means being positioned during a streak of opportunities that emerge in quick succession because market conditions are overwhelmingly in your favor

for example, you could have been a memecoin god simply by being active in the market during the explosive memecoin era of 2021, which produced $DOGE, $SHIB, $FLOKI, and several other billion-dollar runners

many traders made life-changing money during that period

but the same sophisticated processes that helped some of us make 7, 8, or even 9 figures during the bull market would have failed miserably in the bear market that followed in 2022

the same principle applies to the 2024–early 2025 era, which produced several multibillion-dollar runners like $WIF, $POPCAT, and $FARTCOIN

and then the prolonged dearth of opportunities after $TRUMP leading to 10/10 and the almost one-year period following

the point is simple:

the edge that makes you money in one market environment won't necessarily make you money in another

and one of the most important skills you can develop as a trader is recognizing when your edge is no longer there

sometimes, the best trade is no trade at all

sometimes, the smartest thing you can do is take a bow, step away, and wait for the next opportunity

even if only temporarily

it's almost impossible to consistently beat the market over a sufficiently long timeframe

but as crypto traders, we have one significant advantage:

we don't need to outperform the market every single day, week, or month to generate exceptional returns

historically, crypto's bull phases have tended to occupy a disproportionate share of the cycle, with bear phases accounting for a smaller portion

using one historical framework, the bull phase averages approximately 1,060 days, or 74% of the cycle, while the bear phase averages around 380 days, or 26%

but if your definition of a bull run is narrower — i.e. a period of explosive momentum when $BTC trades above its 200-day moving average and much of the cycle's biggest price action occurs — then the window becomes significantly shorter

under that framework, we're talking about approximately 237 days, or around 16% of the cycle

these figures are estimates based on particular definitions of market phases, not universal constants

but the broader lesson remains:

you don't need to trade every market. you need to recognize the windows when your edge is strongest and capitalize on them

for the rest of the time, there's nothing wrong with stepping away entirely or trading only with a tiny fraction of your portfolio that you can comfortably afford to lose

preserving your capital, your mental clarity, and your ability to recognize the next major opportunity is far more important than forcing trades in unfavorable conditions

because the goal isn't to be active all the time

the goal is to be positioned when it matters most

and to have the discipline to do nothing when it doesn't

to conclude, i only wish i had followed this advice myself

hopefully, i'll do a better job of applying it going forward, GOD WILLING

many have asked me how i can be so sure that $USELESS will be the first memecoin to hit $1 BILLION this cycle and THE meme of the cycle

here's why 👇

i've traded memecoins across multiple cycles and publicly traded:

• $16k to $20m+ on $BONK
• $6k to $1m+ on $WIF
• low 6 figs to $8m+ on $FARTCOIN
• low 6 figs to $1m+ each on $PNUT and solana:7GCihgDB8fe6KNjn2MYtkzZcRjQy3t9GHdC8uHYmW2hr
• several other low 6-figure positions to mid-7 and 8 figures

i also publicly predicted last cycle's memecoin runs, where $PEPE went from a few hundred million to $4B, then $11B, and $FLOKI went from a few hundred million to $3.5B

here's why i believe $USELESS is next:

1. it has shattered ceilings no other memecoin has come close to breaking

with its $450M ATH, $USELESS is the ONLY memecoin to hit an ATH above $400M since its launch almost 1.5 years ago

no other memecoin has even come close in that entire timeframe

not one!

2. the narrative is arguably the strongest imaginable

$DOGE at $12.8B? USELESS!

$PEPE at $1.9B? USELESS!

the entire $30B memecoin sector? USELESS!

hard to imagine a stronger memecoin narrative, past, present or future

3. its T1 CEX distribution is a massive advantage

$USELESS is already listed spot on several T1 exchanges, including Coinbase, Kraken, Upbit and Bitvavo

memecoins need serious liquidity to reach $1B+

and that liquidity isn't sitting in the trenches

you need major CEXs, their massive liquidity and their retail userbases to unlock that kind of upside

no other memecoin launched since $USELESS has achieved the same level of CEX distribution

purely from this angle, $USELESS is massively positioned to win

4. cult community + relentless mindshare

$USELESS has arguably had the most mindshare of any CT meme over the past 1.5 years

people dunk on the narrative, can't believe its outperformance, hate what they think it represents, or simply can't stop talking about it

either way, they keep talking about it

and the community remains completely unfazed by the endless FUD

many in the USELESS community genuinely believe $USELESS will FLIP $DOGE this cycle

that level of delusional optimism is EXACTLY what you want to see in the next $DOGE

5. volume, OI and whale accumulation are consistently outperforming

$USELESS is often the #1 or #2 most traded memecoin on top CEXs that have listed it

more often than not, it ranks second only to $DOGE

let that sink in: it's frequently doing more volume than memecoins worth multiples of its market cap

and this isn't a one-off

the same pattern shows up in OI and whale inflows

$USELESS has some of the strongest relative OI of any memecoin and is consistently among the most accumulated memecoins by whales on Solana

6. it consistently outperforms whenever the market shows signs of life

compare $USELESS against $BTC, $SOL, $USDT, $DOGE, $SHIB, $PEPE or virtually any established memecoin this year

the historical outperformance speaks for itself

and it isn't a fluke

it happens EVERY. SINGLE. TIME!

whenever the market catches a bid, $USELESS has repeatedly outperformed established memecoins

then a shiny new memecoin launches on a hot chain or catches a hot narrative, and everyone thinks THAT'S the coin

only for $USELESS to start outperforming the shiny new meta all over again

i've made insane amounts trading memecoins across THREE cycles, both privately and publicly

i've seen the biggest runners before they went parabolic

and i've NEVER been more convinced about a memecoin's potential to hit escape velocity and make a $DOGE-like move than i am with $USELESS

the market has already shown us what this thing can do

now imagine what happens when the next major memecoin rotation begins

$USELESS to $1B+ isn't some random fantasy to me

it's the thesis i'm betting on

i posted the following in response to someone in a small group chat about recent $USELESS 'weakness' and figured i should post on X too:

yeh i see what you mean, and agree that $USELESS has been quite weak recently

but here's what i've noticed about $USELESS:

it tends to be aggressively volatile in BOTH directions

when it pumps, it does so aggressively and outperforms everything by a wide margin

when it dumps, it does that with the same intensity

i actually think this is one of its biggest strengths, not a weakness

volatility is a trader's dream. it drives the volume and attention that make a memecoin sticky and help it reach new ATHs

that said, everything depends on your timeframe

if you're looking at the past few weeks or the past month, then yes, $USELESS has underperformed and is down over 50%

but look at YTD, 10/10 to date, 3-6 months, or any other meaningful timeframe, and it has outperformed every other established memecoin

and here's the funny thing about $USELESS:

it has a habit of looking incredibly weak, only to come out of nowhere and aggressively outperform everything on a monster rally that leaves people trying to time the bottom completely sidelined

we've seen this play out repeatedly

• i remember when $USELESS was around $30m-$50m while $CASHCAT was ripping to $200m. everyone was mocking USELESS, calling CASHCAT the cycle meme and telling people to sell USELESS

shortly after, USELESS ripped from $30m to $350m in a matter of weeks

today, CASHCAT is around $100m while USELESS is around $140m despite all the talk about USELESS being 'weak'

• replace CASHCAT with $AI or $ANSEM, and it's the same story

• i also remember everyone fudding USELESS against $FARTCOIN when USELESS was at $30m and FARTCOIN was at $180m-$200m

they called USELESS boring and unfunny, argued FARTCOIN was better value, and told people to sell USELESS at 30m and buy FARTCOIN at 180m

shortly after, USELESS came out of nowhere and flipped FARTCOIN and also WIF, BONK, etc for a while

$USELESS has consistently outperformed established memecoins since $TRUMP, as well as the newer cycle memes people have repeatedly favored over it

and die-hard $USELESS loyalists instinctively understand why:

every other memecoin is USELESS, and liquidity will eventually flow to the king of them all:

$USELESS

of course, we should also remember that USELESS literally just pulled off a 10x in around 5 weeks, going from around $35m to $350m between August 12 and September 23

a pullback after a move like that isn't unreasonable, especially with these market conditions. some would even argue it's healthy, as much as i'd love to see it go straight up forever

i'll also admit that hyper-optimistic $USELESS bullievers like myself can get carried away

sometimes we're still hyperbullish in the short term even after the short-term trend has flipped

but that doesn't automatically change the long-term thesis

short term, mid term, or long term, USELESS has repeatedly established itself as THE memecoin to pay attention to heading into the new cycle

since its launch, it has challenged virtually every ceiling people thought was possible for a memecoin in this era:

• the only memecoin to reach $450m+ market cap post $TRUMP / $MELANIA in any meaningful fashion, and we're almost two years on

• the only established memecoin to outperform $BTC and its chain's native currency this year

• one of the only memecoins to come close to its previous ATH in a meaningful way after an aggressive pullback in almost two years

so yes, USELESS can show more weakness when the market looks bad

sometimes, it even frontruns the market when weakness starts to appear

but whenever the market starts trending up, USELESS has repeatedly demonstrated that it can bounce back harder and faster than almost anything else

if you believe the bull run is imminent, i'd be looking to aggressively buy or hold $USELESS 'weakness'

if you think we're done for the foreseeable future, well, you probably shouldn't be listening to me haha 😅
