European natural gas surged to a five-month high as the war in the Persian Gulf remains mired in stalemate, dimming the outlook for global supplies and the region’s preparedness for the forthcoming winter. Benchmark futures jumped as much as 3.9%, topping €65 a megawatt-hour for the first time since March.
