Andre Cronje: Most DeFi Protocols Are No Longer Truly Decentralized According to Cointelegraph, Flying Tulip founder and Fantom creator Andre Cronje stated during a recent X Spaces show that most DeFi protocols are no longer truly decentralized. Cronje argued that "true DeFi" must be decentralized, immutable, and free of intermediaries, qualities largely absent in protocols operating today. He noted that as builders integrate circuit breakers, risk committees, decision-makers, and institutional oversight, DeFi has departed from its inherent decentralization into a new paradigm called "onchain finance or open finance," sacrificing immutability in the process. According to DefiLlama data, TVL in DeFi has more than halved over the past 10 months, dropping from $167 billion in early October 2025 to $75 billion.
