The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued the following statement: Further to the statements issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, 13 Safar 1448 AH (corresponding to July 27, 2026 AD) and Tuesday, 14 Safar 1448 AH (corresponding to July 28, 2026 AD) regarding the reprehensible attacks against the Kingdom by drones launched by Iranian-backed militias in Iraq, and the Kingdom's determination to deter the aggressors and its right to respond, the Ministry affirms that this aggressive approach adopted by the Iranian-backed terrorist militias in Iraq came at a time when the Kingdom was exerting efforts to contribute to ending the escalation in the region and preserving its security and stability. However, these Iranian-backed terrorist militias chose an irresponsible escalatory approach, violating international law and disregarding the requirements of Islamic brotherhood. In accordance with the principles of good neighborliness, the Kingdom affirms that the strikes launched by the Saudi Armed Forces, in coordination with the US Central Command, this Wednesday, February 15, 1448 AH (corresponding to July 29, 2026), in response to specific targets within the territory of the Republic of Iraq linked to attacks on the Kingdom's oil facilities, were carried out in accordance with the right of self-defense guaranteed by international law under Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations. The Kingdom also affirms that it does not seek escalation, but should it be subjected to any aggression, it will not hesitate to take all necessary measures to preserve its sovereignty and protect its citizens and assets spa.gov.sa/N2643533
