"Believe refined product prices could stay elevated for longer" "even if an effective reopening of the Strait eases crude supply constraints". CVR Energy CEO on Q3 call.
"Even if an effective reopening of the strait eases crude supply constraints, we believe refined product prices could stay elevated for longer, as damaged refineries must be repaired and global inventories rebuilt. We think global supply dislocations and historically low inventory levels support a higher-than-mid-cycle margin environment for at least the next 12-24 months. Looking at the U.S., the domestic refining fleet ran hard in the third quarter as companies deferred maintenance and maximized throughput volumes to keep product supply flowing to meet the needs of consumers. U.S. refinery utilization averaged 96% in the quarter, well above the five-year average of 92% for the same time period.
Despite that high utilization, refined product inventories have continued to decline due to resilient demand trends and increased refined product exports. Domestic gasoline inventories are currently 5% below the five-year average, and distillate inventories are 9% below the five-year average. Exports of gasoline and diesel from the U.S. averaged 2.9 million barrels per day for the third quarter, an increase of nearly 20% from the third quarter of 2025"
