The Graph: October 2026 in Review
In Q3 2026, The Graph put its growth behind The Graph Network and the Indexers who run it. October was the month that plan started to show results.
1. Studio traffic lands on the Network
BNB Smart Chain and Polygon Subgraph traffic moved off the Studio staging environment and onto The Graph Network, where Indexers serve it and collect the query fees.
As of November 1st, none of the original 860+ BSC and Polygon Subgraphs remain in Studio. The Upgrade Indexer's scope fell from 3,417 allocations to 1,723, and the migration ran without major issues. Other chains are planned to follow, one at a time.
Still on a staging endpoint? Publish to the Network and switch to a Gateway endpoint.
2. Rewards follow service
The Rewards Eligibility Oracle raised its bar twice this month. An Indexer now needs qualifying queries on 10 Subgraphs for a day to count (up from 1 at launch).
The two-month retrospective:
About 667,000 GRT that built up on non-serving Indexers' allocations went to the reclaim contract instead.
Eligible Indexers rose from 70 to 55, then fell to 48 under the 5-Subgraph rule, as designed.
Rewards paid per day held steady through the change.
Total issuance stays the same. REO decides which Indexers receive it.

3. More Substreams, fewer idle networks
Ink now streams Extended Blocks through Firehose and Substreams, joining Arc, HyperEVM and Robinhood Chain. Extended Blocks carry full call traces, native balance changes and storage diffs that RPC endpoints leave out.
At the same time, smaller L2s and low-usage networks left Subgraph Studio. The chain list now better matches where data consumers need data.
4. Substreams v0.8.0
Rust protobuf bindings moved from prost to buffa. Blocks decode 2.9x to 4.9x faster, and a 1.5M-block Uniswap v4 backfill on Ethereum dropped from 342 s to 118 s. Opt-in, with no downstream changes.
5. Releases across the stack
Subgraph Studio 1.5.0 and v1.6.0
Graph Explorer v1.2.0, with delegation slippage protection
indexer-agent and indexer-cli v0.25.12
Docs v2.1.10
Graph Node in a stabilization phase under InfraDAO
6. AI agents pay per query
On vAPI's marketplace, AI agents query 20 Subgraph endpoints from The Graph and pay $0.01 in USDC on Base per query through x402. No API key, no account.
7. In progress
The Multi-Gateway Plan is with The Graph Council. Liquid Staking holds in Phase 1 while the Foundation lines up a new vault operator. Direct Indexer Payments are slated for later this year.
