@LucidLabsFi The HSBC RedCoin item stands out.
Starting an HKD coin with everyday PayMe payments before tokenized funds feels like the right order for local-currency stablecoins in Asia.
Reply to @LucidLabsFi: This week, stablecoins moved further into the banking system: one issuer got a federal trust charter, another major bank put its coin in front of millions of users, and big platforms opened new distribution for regulated dollars.
Here’s what made the headlines this week:
→ @Ripple received OCC approval for Ripple National Trust Bank, a federally chartered trust that can hold RLUSD reserves under federal oversight.
→ @HSBC launched RedCoin for 3.3 million PayMe users in Hong Kong. The HKD stablecoin starts with everyday payments, with tokenized funds and corporate use planned later.
→ @Ripple expanded with @RobinhoodApp across $RLUSD, Ripple Prime, and Ripple Treasury for both customer services and the firm’s own cash operations.
→ @Ripple also expanded with @BNYglobal on custody and tokenized trade finance, linking BNY’s scale with RLUSD and the XRP Ledger.
→ @Ripple and @coinbase partnered so $RLUSD can go live on Coinbase for retail and institutional users on XRP, Ethereum and Base.
→ Canada opened a 60-day consultation on draft rules that would ban stablecoin yield and require non-bank issuers to hold reserves at Canadian institutions.
→ The OCC called on U.S. community banks to apply as permitted stablecoin issuers under the GENIUS Act ahead of the 18 January 2027 deadline.
