🛑 THORChain paused: a reorg-related double payout on ETH What happened. At 11:34 UTC today Ethereum had a one-block reorg. A 10 ETH deposit to vault …dx7767 sat in the dropped block and was never re-included on the canonical chain, but THORChain had already observed it, finalised it a few blocks later, and credited the vault. The swap failed its price limit and was refunded, so the vault paid out 10 ETH it never received. The real deposit from the same sender was refunded as well. Net result: vault …dx7767 is 10 ETH short, and the sending wallet 0xcef5…ee2e received about 10 ETH more than it deposited. At this point nothing suggests this was intentional: the wallet has used THORChain for almost two years, and the reorg was pure chance. If this is your wallet, please reach out to the core team. Why the safeguards did not catch it. Every node detected the reorg within seconds, but the re-check that should have removed the deposit could not get a clear answer at that moment and kept it. Finalisation then went through on the cached observation. The automatic solvency halt did fired and node operators (thank you ) immediately investigated. Why we paused. Core developers are verifying the exact sequence of events and working on a fix. As a precaution all chains are halted until that is done. Next steps. - Chain-level halts replace the global pause on. - ETH stays halted on …dx7767 until the 10 ETH is recovered or written off. - Bifrost and thornode fixes ship in the next release. - The two other items in flight, the stuck TRON/ETH lanes and the swap-queue cap, are unrelated to this and have their own mimir votes. No user action is needed. Swaps submitted during the halt are held or refunded once the chain resumes.
