Ms. Cook has neither been been charged with a crime or convicted of any wrongdoing. The justices said that Ms. Cook was not afforded an ample opportunity to respond to the charges, but left the substance of the dispute unresolved. Nevertheless, the president has since doubled down, setting up a special, hand-picked panel to grill her on her finances and help render a decision on whether he has "cause" to fire her.
