Ultra-wealthy executives who built fortunes in and around cryptocurrency have become major players in American politics, collectively pouring more than $56 million into the current midterm election cycle. This surge in spending reflects the industry’s determination to lock in a more favorable regulatory environment after years of uncertainty. Between 2024 and 2026, U.S. policy toward crypto shifted sharply. Under the second Trump administration, the emphasis moved from selective enforcement to active support for digital assets as a source of innovation and financial leadership. Early executive actions rescinded prior restrictive frameworks, established a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve capitalized with forfeited assets, and directed agencies to prioritize clear rules rather than case-by-case litigation. In July 2025, the GENIUS Act created the first comprehensive federal framework for payment stablecoins, requiring reserves in short-duration Treasuries and other high-quality assets while barring issuers from paying yield. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency finalized implementing rules in October 2026, with the full regime set to take effect in January 2027. At the same time, the Securities and Exchange Commission and Commodity Futures Trading Commission adopted a more accommodating stance. They dropped several high-profile enforcement actions, issued joint guidance classifying major assets such as Bitcoin and Ether as digital commodities outside securities law, and advanced proposals that would ease tokenized securities trading and passive software activities. The broader Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which would have assigned primary spot-market oversight to the CFTC and provided a statutory taxonomy, passed the House in 2025 but stalled in the Senate after a failed cloture vote in September 2026, leaving market-structure questions largely to agency rulemaking for now. These developments have already reduced legal risk for many market participants and encouraged traditional financial institutions to expand crypto-related services, from custody to futures products. Yet the absence of durable legislation means the gains remain vulnerable to future political shifts. Agency rules can be revised or challenged in court, and a change in congressional control or presidential administration could reintroduce stricter oversight or reverse specific exemptions. Looking ahead, the next one to two years will likely center on implementation rather than new statutes. The GENIUS Act’s stablecoin rules will begin operating in earnest, potentially accelerating issuance of fully reserved, regulated dollar-backed tokens and integrating them more deeply into payment systems. The SEC and CFTC are expected to finalize complementary frameworks covering token offerings, trading venues, and leveraged retail products, which could further onshore activity that previously moved offshore. Institutional participation is projected to deepen as banks and asset managers gain clearer paths for custody, tokenization of traditional assets, and derivatives. Political spending by crypto executives is likely to continue or intensify through the remainder of the cycle and beyond, as the industry seeks to protect these gains and push for eventual market-structure legislation that would provide longer-term certainty. If midterm results preserve a divided or Republican-leaning Congress, agency-led progress can proceed with relatively little interference; a stronger Democratic showing could increase scrutiny of executive-branch actions and raise the political cost of industry-friendly rules. Over a longer horizon, successful implementation of stablecoin and trading frameworks could position the United States as a leading hub for digital-asset innovation, drawing capital and talent that had previously favored more permissive jurisdictions. Persistent political risk, however, will remain until Congress enacts a comprehensive statute that is harder for future administrations to unwind. The combination of concentrated wealth, targeted political investment, and a policy environment that has moved from hostility toward structured support is reshaping both the regulatory landscape and the industry’s place in the broader U.S. financial system.(Historical earnings: For 2026Q2 (period ended 2026-06-30), reported basic EPS of 0.42, diluted EPS of 0.39, net income of USD 0.103 billion, revenue of USD 75.207 million, and total revenues of USD 1.395 billion.
