Speaker Johnson Holds the Gavel for Three Years

Following the three-year anniversary of his Speakership, conservative and industry leaders are commending House Republicans and Speaker Johnson for delivering historic results for the American people, all while navigating one of the smallest House majorities in history.
During the 119th Congress, House Republicans have delivered $4.6 trillion in lower taxes — the largest middle- and working-class tax cut in history, heading off the largest tax hike ever — a $1.6 trillion reduction in wasteful government spending, a totally secured border, erased crushing Biden-era regulations, the lowest violent crime rate in 126 years, the largest decline in prescription drug costs in 60 years, Trump Accounts for every child, the first-ever nationwide school choice program, more than one million private sector jobs added to the economy, reshoring of American manufacturing, record stock market indexes and job participation numbers, and so much more. Here’s what they are saying:
Conservative Leaders
“Mike Johnson inherited a House GOP conference that had destroyed a Speaker and found itself so bitterly divided it could not agree on anything. With extraordinary patience, astonishing discipline, a refusal to get mad at people and a daily working partnership with President Trump that won again and again when defeat seemed certain, Mike created a record for legislative effectiveness that is historic.” — Hon. Newt Gingrich, Former Speaker of the House
“Over the last three years, Speaker Johnson has repeatedly defied the odds to implement the America First agenda, advance Republican priorities, and deliver wins for the American people.” — Ken Blackwell, Chairman, Conservative Action Project
“Speaker Johnson took the Speaker’s gavel with an ambitious policy mandate from the American people. Guided by his faith and trusted for his integrity, he has repeatedly delivered consequential conservative policy victories through some of the slimmest congressional majorities. A true statesman. From all of us at Heritage, thank you, Speaker Johnson, and congratulations on three years!” — Kevin Roberts, President, The Heritage Foundation and Heritage Action
“Over the past three years, Speaker Mike Johnson has led with faith, conviction, and a commitment to putting America First. Working with President Trump, he united House Republicans to pass the historic One Big Beautiful Bill into law – protecting families from tax hikes, expanding the Child Tax Credit, delivering tax relief on tips and overtime for eligible workers, and providing critical resources to secure our border. Under his leadership, the House has passed meaningful legislation including the HALT Fentanyl Act which strengthens law enforcement’s ability to combat deadly fentanyl in our communities and hold traffickers accountable. On behalf of AFPI, we applaud Speaker Johnson’s leadership and his determination to turn America First promises into lasting policy.” — Greg Sindelar, Interim President & CEO, America First Policy Institute
“Speaker Mike Johnson has been a tremendous ally to the American family. Under his leadership, the House has prioritized protecting children from the predatory transgender industry, extended those protections through domestic and foreign appropriations funding, passed landmark legislation to safeguard kids online, and worked tirelessly to codify the President’s America First agenda. Moreover, in the last year, parents received an increased Child Tax Credit and access to new savings for their children via Trump Accounts. He also helped shepherd through legislation to defund Big Abortion providers like Planned Parenthood, cutting off taxpayer funding for a network which serves as one of the largest purveyors of harmful transgender drugs to minors. Thank you Speaker Johnson for putting American families and America’s future at the center of our national policy.” —Terry Schilling, President, American Principles Project
“Speaker Mike Johnson leads with the courage and conviction this civilizational moment demands. He fights to protect women’s sports and spaces, uphold the sanctity of life and defund the abortion industry, and shield children from the devastating harm of transition drugs and surgeries. Under his leadership, the House Judiciary Committee worked to hold the SPLC accountable for using its ‘hate list’ to silence and deplatform ideological opponents. And in an historic address to the UK Parliament, he reminded the world that the answer to speech we don’t like is always more speech, not censorship. ADF is grateful for Speaker Johnson and the sacrifices he makes that all might be free.” — Kristen Waggoner, CEO, President, & Chief Counsel, Alliance Defending Freedom
“Mike Johnson has been a taxpayer champion during his three years as Speaker of the House. He’s been a staunch advocate of limited government, low taxes, and low regulation. Under his leadership, Republicans rescinded funding for Biden’s supersized IRS, prevented the largest tax increase in American history and delivered across the board income tax cuts for American families. Perhaps most impressive, was Johnson’s ability to successfully make the pro-growth Trump Tax Cuts permanent. This is something 2017 Republicans fell short of achieving with 241 House Republicans. Johnson finished the job on permanent tax cuts while losing just two votes. This is a historic achievement made possible by Speaker Johnson’s leadership in the House.” —Grover Norquist, President, Americans for Tax Reform
“For the last three years, Speaker Mike Johnson has led the House of Representatives with conviction, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the American people. He has worked tirelessly to advance the principles of limited government, free markets, and federalism. Speaker Johnson has demonstrated how principle-guided service can deliver consequential victories for the American people.” —Lisa B. Nelson, CEO, American Legislative Exchange Council
“Americans sent Washington a clear mandate: secure our borders, let hardworking families keep more of their paychecks, and expand opportunities for the next generation. Speaker Mike Johnson has helped deliver on that mandate by advancing an America First agenda that strengthens families, keeps our communities safe, and makes the American dream attainable for all. The contrast with the radical left’s failed, big-government socialist agenda couldn’t be clearer. Their policies would mean higher taxes, rising costs, and weaker enforcement that puts all Americans at risk. As Speaker Johnson marks three years leading the House, America First Works commends his leadership and steadfast commitment, alongside the House Republican majority, to building a safer, stronger, and more prosperous America.” — Ashley Hayek, President, America First Works
“Speaker Johnson has led the House through three years of razor-thin margins and constant pressure, and his leadership team have repeatedly defied political expectations to deliver wins many thought were virtually impossible. His willingness to listen to voters and stand on principle was on full display in the fight to make the Working Families Tax Cut law, a landmark achievement that stopped the largest tax hike in American history and delivered lasting relief to families and small businesses. Speaker Johnson has been a champion for free markets and a strong ally of AFP since he came to Congress, and we need more leaders in Washington who govern the way he has.” —Brent Gardner, Chief Government Affairs Officer, Americans for Prosperity
“We congratulate Speaker Johnson on three remarkable years as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. Days after his election—and only weeks after the October 7, 2023, massacre—his first public event was an address to the Republican Jewish Coalition’s Annual Leadership Summit. Speaker Johnson has demonstrated exceptional and righteous moral clarity, making the fight against antisemitism a House priority and leading the Republican majority in steadfast support of the U.S.-Israel alliance. Often underestimated, he has repeatedly delivered, including by passing the Big Beautiful Bill to cut taxes and expand educational freedom for all Americans. Given his razor-thin majority and extraordinary path to the speakership, his continued leadership is all the more impressive. The American Jewish community has had no better friend and partner leading the People’s House.” — Senator Norm Coleman, National Chairman; & Matt Brooks, CEO, Republican Jewish Coalition
“Thank God for Speaker Mike Johnson. We would never have passed the Big Beautiful Tax Cut without his amazing leadership to pull out that victory with such a slim majority. We have cut more wasteful programs than ever. No wonder today we have the lowest poverty rate, the lowest crime rate, the lowest number of Americans receiving unemployment benefits the highest stock market, the most investment AND the highest middle incomes in 50 years. A Speaker of the House who has made the American economy great again.” —Steve Moore, Chairman & Cofounder, Committee to Unleash Prosperity
“Speaker Mike Johnson is a man of great faith, integrity, and honor, and I am blessed to call him a friend. His tireless work passing the historic Working Families Tax Cuts defunded Big Abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood of hard-earned American taxpayer dollars for the first time in American history, relieved tax burdens on American families, bolstered school choice, and expanded pro-family child tax credits; and with the passage of the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, the Speaker affirmed that women and girls deserve safety, fairness, and opportunity in their sports categories and competitions. At this critical moment in our nation’s history, Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee gives thanks to God for Speaker Johnson’s wise, steadfast, God-honoring leadership as the 56th Speaker of the House and congratulates him on leading effectively for three years.” —Penny Nance, CEO & President, Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee
“In a time when political expediency too often takes precedence over principle, Speaker Mike Johnson has remained steadfast in his commitment to faith, family, and freedom. Through extraordinary political challenges, Mike has demonstrated the conviction, patience, and perseverance necessary to keep House Republicans united around shared principles and priorities. I am grateful for his friendship, his principled leadership, and his understanding that public service is ultimately about serving God and our fellow citizens.” —Tony Perkins, President, Family Research Council
“Speaker Johnson is one of the most pro-life Speakers in the history of the House. Our nation has seen historic victories under his leadership, including a staunch defense of the Hyde Amendment and the one-year moratorium on federal Medicaid dollars for large abortion providers like Planned Parenthood. Republicans could do more to learn from the Speaker and follow his lead in the battle for life.” —John Mize, CEO, Americans United for Life
“In just three years and with the narrowest of majorities, Speaker Mike Johnson has helped turn conservative principles into meaningful legislative accomplishments. His leadership in securing passage of the historic, permanent tax relief for hardworking American taxpayers as well as critical reforms to reduce waste, fraud and abuse, are defining achievements for our nation. As a former state lawmaker, Speaker Johnson has shown how policies rooted in federalism and other key conservative principles can best serve the American people for years to come.” — Jonathan Williams, President & Chief Economist, American Legislative Exchange Council
“In the mission to bring school choice to every state in America, we owe a debt of gratitude to Speaker Johnson’s leadership in Congress and his tireless commitment to advancing educational freedom at every turn. Speaker Johnson ensured that the historic Education Freedom Tax Credit was shepherded through the reconciliation process and signed into law. With Speaker Johnson at the President’s side, national school choice became the law of the land. School choice is now positioned to help more students and families than ever before, with nearly 52 million kids eligible for the Education Freedom Tax Credit.” —Tommy Schultz, CEO, American Federation for Children
“Congratulations to Speaker Mike Johnson on three years of leadership as Speaker of the House. His commitment to reforming our nation’s safety net reflects a belief that every American deserves the opportunity to work, contribute, and lead a flourishing life. Under his leadership, the House has taken meaningful steps toward that vision—from strengthening connections to work through the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and restoring integrity to SNAP, to advancing the One Door to Work Act’s reforms through committee. Together, these efforts help move our safety net toward a stronger focus on opportunity, accountability, and lasting independence. Thank you, Speaker Johnson, for championing the dignity of work and helping more Americans build a brighter future for themselves and their families.” — Rachel Barkley, Executive Director, Alliance for Opportunity

AFP-LA has heard from small-business owners reinvesting in their companies and planning for growth, and from families who are keeping more of what they earn thanks to Speaker Johnson’s leadership. AFP-LA is proud to stand with Speaker Johnson and our Louisiana delegation as they continue to work to deliver results for the state, and we look forward to our continued partnership to ensure every Louisianian has the opportunity and freedom to get ahead.” —Scott Simon, State Director, Americans for Prosperity-Louisiana
“Three years into his speakership, Mike Johnson has helped lead House Republicans through historic legislative battles while working alongside President Donald J. Trump to advance an America First agenda. From passage of the Laken Riley Act to strengthen immigration enforcement, to the landmark Working Families Tax Cuts legislation, increased investment in border security and national defense, efforts to rein in federal spending, and policies promoting American energy dominance, Speaker Johnson has helped translate key Republican priorities into legislative action. This agenda has also delivered meaningful tax relief for America’s seniors. The Working Families Tax Cuts legislation established an additional deduction for middle class seniors, helping millions of older Americans keep more of their hard-earned retirement income. Speaker Johnson’s leadership reflects a continued commitment to putting the American people first and building a safer, stronger, and more prosperous nation.” —Rebecca Weber, Chairwoman, Association of Mature American Citizens Action
“Only one man could have united his caucus behind the One Big Beautiful Bill, which has given us permanent tax cuts as well as the historic new Education Freedom Tax Credit that will benefit so many Catholic students. That man is Speaker Johnson. I am grateful for his leadership and example.” —Kelsey Reinhardt, President & CEO, CatholicVote
“The Working Families Tax Cuts required near-literal unanimity from House Republicans numerous times in a row — committee work, budget resolutions, and budget reconciliation votes, as well as the associated procedural votes. It could have easily died at any stage. Speaker Mike Johnson is why it didn’t. He tirelessly worked to maintain unity and as a result, we made tax reform permanent for every American family and small business. We also cut taxes. reformed Obamacare, Medicaid, SNAP, student loans, and ended the Green New Deal. It took a deft leader to do that.” —Ryan Ellis, President, Center for a Free Economy

“In an era where Republicans too often dial it in with social media posts and vague promises to fight, Speaker Mike Johnson is a refreshing change. He does the difficult work; he listens and he is willing to draw a line to protect principles. President Trump and the Speaker are an amazing partnership because they understand that part of leading is listening. Congratulations on succeeding in a job many thought had become impossible.” —Matt Schlapp, Chairman, Conservative Political Action Committee

His life has been spent in service of protecting and defending the vulnerable, and he brought this same passion with him into the office of the Speaker. The combination of true belief in the dignity of every person—born and unborn—political and relational savvy, humor, and integrity embodied by Speaker Johnson makes him a force to be reckoned with. Thanks to the Speaker, for the first time in history, Congress defunded Big Abortion of their largest source of federal funding for one year, and taxpayers were not forced to subsidize even more abortion coverage through Obamacare. “The Speakership of Mike Johnson is historic for a number of reasons but two are especially notable. Never in the History of the United States has the House of Representatives elected as Speaker a member who didn’t seek it. Never in the History of the United States has the House of Representatives been so narrowly divided between our two great political parties. Yet, Mike Johnson has managed to navigate the circumstances and this Congress has had enormous success. Historians will recall the Johnson Speakership as one of the most accomplished in our nation’s history.”
—Bob McEwen, U.S. House of Representatives Former Member, Ohio

“Speaker Johnson eloquently spelled out his guiding principles years ago in his ‘7 Core Principles of Conservatism’ – which every American should read – and since becoming Speaker has managed to make progress on them in a landscape defined by gridlock and pessimism. He took on arguably the most difficult job in Washington under challenging circumstances and in an even more challenging environment, including a historically narrow majority and countless factors outside his control. Since then, he has gamely led the House and achieved policy victories that will save taxpayers thousands, began the process of badly needed entitlement reform, expanded educational opportunities for children, and more.
