quote: “Finish the Job Together”? What Exactly Is Left to Achieve?
I would genuinely like to understand what “finish the job together” actually means. What exactly can the United States and Israel accomplish that they failed to achieve during 39 days of fighting?
Another war with Iran is far from guaranteed to achieve its stated objectives. What it could certainly do, however, is dramatically worsen the global economic situation while imposing enormous costs on the Israeli economy and its citizens.
Iran has already demonstrated that it has no intention of surrendering. And there is little reason to believe that airpower alone can bring down the Islamic Republic, even if the United States and Israel target Iran's energy infrastructure. Such attacks would almost certainly trigger severe Iranian retaliation against energy facilities across the region, with potentially devastating consequences for global energy markets.
Before talking about “finishing the job,” policymakers in Washington and Jerusalem need to answer some fundamental questions: What realistic strategic objectives could another military campaign achieve? At what cost? And, perhaps most importantly, what is the exit strategy?
Any serious planning must also begin with the assumption that Iran will retaliate forcefully and that Tehran, not just Washington or Jerusalem, will have a say in how the conflict unfolds and when it ends.
The United States and Israel should not confuse the ability to inflict additional destruction with the ability to achieve a strategic victory. After 39 days of fighting, that distinction should be clearer than ever.
Before launching another war, there must be a realistic assessment of what military force can actually deliver, a clear political objective, and a credible strategy for ending the conflict.
Wars are much easier to start than to end. And the consequences of another miscalculation could extend far beyond Israel and Iran.

President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are discussing the possibility of renewed strikes against Iran, with Netanyahu telling Trump they will "finish it together."
According to Axios, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth made a surprise visit to Israel, meeting Netanyahu at an air base as Israeli fighter jets conduct overnight drills toward Iran.
