What are your thoughts on the full take in the original post by our sponsors at Vanquish? | WHY $AAPL COULD BECOME THE MOST VALUABLE COMPANY IN THE WORLD AGAIN
The market is underestimating how Apple could reclaim its position as most valuable company in the world because investors have become so focused on whether Apple can compete with the leading AI labs that they're overlooking two potentially enormous catalysts coming together at exactly the right time, the beginning of a new iPhone upgrade cycle and the emergence of local AI.
The iPhone Duo reportedly sold out within minutes of launch with new orders already pushing into mid December which is impressive considering broader smartphone industry is experiencing one of its weakest periods in years.
Consumers have been holding onto their phones longer because annual upgrades have become increasingly incremental but the Duo introduces an entirely new form factor that gives Apple's installed base a reason to upgrade while potentially attracting Android foldable users who have been waiting for Apple to enter the category.
The fact that carriers are offering up to $1,200 in credits also suggests they see an opportunity to capture a meaningful wave of customers and I think this could be the beginning of a much larger hardware replacement cycle rather than simply another successful product launch.
What makes this even more interesting is how the Duo could change the economics of the entire iPhone business because Apple doesn't necessarily need to sell dramatically more phones to generate substantially more revenue and earnings.
The company already captured a record 22% of global smartphone shipments during an exceptionally weak industry quarter, and introducing a premium foldable with configurations reaching 2TB gives Apple another way to increase average selling prices while competitors continue struggling with rising component costs and constrained memory supply.
There's also an important supply dynamic here because Foxconn's assembly yields were reportedly only around 60% in September, which means Apple may be shipping significantly fewer devices than customers actually want.
I wouldn't interpret the initial sellout as definitive evidence of extraordinary demand because limited supply can create the same result, but if lead times remain elevated as manufacturing yields improve, Apple could convert that backlog into additional revenue throughout 2027.
Early manufacturing inefficiencies will likely pressure margins but improving yields combined with a richer product mix could eventually create an attractive combination of accelerating revenue growth and expanding profitability.
Bigger opportunity is what happens when this new hardware cycle begins overlapping with local AI because I think investors are still approaching Apple's AI strategy from the wrong direction since Apple doesn't necessarily need to develop most powerful frontier model to become one of largest beneficiaries of AI because it already controls the hardware, operating system and distribution layer through which hundreds of millions of consumers interact with technology every day.
As smaller AI models become increasingly capable of handling complex tasks directly on devices then Apple's silicon architecture, memory integration and privacy focused ecosystem could become significant competitive advantages right as consumers begin expecting personal AI agents that can understand their information, coordinate applications and complete tasks without constantly sending sensitive data to external servers.
This is where I think the combination becomes particularly powerful because the Duo provides a compelling reason for consumers to purchase a new device today, while increasingly capable local AI could provide a reason for those same consumers to remain deeply integrated into Apple's ecosystem for years afterward.
Every additional device also creates another opportunity to monetize services, payments, subscriptions and potentially entirely new categories of AI applications, which means the financial opportunity extends well beyond the initial hardware sale.
Ultimately, I think the path for Apple to become the most valuable company in the world again comes from investors recognizing that its next growth cycle could be driven by both higher value hardware and a much more intelligent software ecosystem rather than simply waiting for smartphone unit growth to accelerate.
The Duo gives Apple an opportunity to increase average selling prices and restart the upgrade cycle, while local AI could make its devices more useful, strengthen customer retention and create additional opportunities to monetize its enormous installed base.
The biggest things I'll be watching are whether Duo lead times remain elevated as production improves, how much the premium product mix contributes to iPhone revenue, whether gross margins recover as manufacturing yields rise and, most importantly, how quickly Apple begins turning local AI capabilities into experiences consumers genuinely use.
None of this is guaranteed because constrained initial supply can exaggerate launch demand, and the monetization of personal AI agents is still developing, but I think the market is overlooking how powerful these two cycles could become if they reinforce each other.
Everyone is asking whether Apple has fallen behind in the AI race, while I think the more interesting question is whether Apple is positioning itself to own the device through which hundreds of millions of people will actually experience AI. If that becomes the dominant way consumers interact with artificial intelligence, I think the potential earnings power and valuation implications for Apple could be considerably larger than investors appreciate today.(Historical earnings: For fiscal 2026FY (period ended 2026-09-03), Micron reported basic EPS of 75.38, diluted EPS of 74.33, net income of USD 84.969 billion, and revenue of USD 133.188 billion.
