quote: A couple of follow-up thoughts on the Trump-Putin diesel deal:
1️⃣ Volume impact - minimal, unless...: Russia was already going to produce and export as much diesel as possible, and it could already find buyers for any volumes it could ship. However, if this deal is followed by a lowering of Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian refineries, then a real impact could be seen in perhaps 4-8 weeks, once plants come back on-line after repairs.
2️⃣ Who gets any new diesel?: Russian diesel is highly unlikely to come to the US in meaningful amounts, as the US is a very large exporter of diesel. Rather, any additional volumes would go to countries like Turkey and Brazil, both of which had become hesitant about Russian fuel after the recently-passed sanctions bill giving Trump the 100% tariff authority against major importers of Russian energy. US consumers could still benefit, however, if Russian diesel starts to bring down global diesel prices/cracks.
