At least 7 attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz since September 28: all tankers. We added the latest attack - reportedly against a brand-new, Dynacom-affiliated tanker - to our map tracking maritime attacks in the MENA region since 2017.

This map has helped me anchor my analysis of Iran’s maritime behavior. There is something truly satisfying about consistently tracking something for years and seeing patterns and trends emerge. We have been doing this since well before the Iran war ; studying how Iran and other actors, including the Houthis, use the maritime domain as a theater of operations.
Last month, we added the new routes that emerged in the SoH during the Iran war. The old routes (TSS) in the center of the Strait remain disrupted seven months into the conflict. The locations of the recent attacks suggest that Iran wants to sustain disruption and keep the routes around Oman high-risk lanes.
