How Grass is Structured and Where Value Flows Many revenue-generating token networks are vulnerable to outside capture; commercial value flows to an external operating company and investors cash out equity, while the network funds itself by selling its token allocation rather than stewarding its own commercial core. Over time, the network and its tokens become useless, and the ecosystem crumbles. Grass was designed the opposite way - with no equity vehicles for value to leak from, the value created by Grass stays in the ecosystem, making it more resilient over time. Crossposted from grass.io/learn How Grass is Structured The Grass Foundation protects Grass autonomy The entire Grass protocol and ecosystem are stewarded by the Grass Foundation. Its objective is to support the development, adoption, community, and ecosystem of the Grass protocol, and all steps it takes must pursue that objective. Crucially, the Grass Foundation is a memberless entity - because it was formed to steward Grass without outside capture, it has no members or shareholders. Instead, it’s overseen by an independent supervisor and three independent directors that steer it toward its stated goals. With no equity vehicle or equity-centric entities to siphon value from it, the Grass Foundation can stay singularly focused on building the Grass ecosystem. Foundation subsidiaries operate the businesses To keep revenue and operations streamlined and make impact easy to measure, the various businesses within the Grass ecosystem are each operated by specific subsidiaries of the Grass Foundation. For example, Grass OpCo Ltd. operates the Grass protocol, the residential proxy network, and the rewards and staking programs. Grass DataCo Ltd. provides public web data to AI labs in support of their training, inference, and other development, while Grass SearchCo Ltd. develops the Live Context Retrieval products. Each has its own expertise, does business directly with customers in its own verticals, and receives the resulting revenue. And most importantly, each is wholly owned by the Grass Foundation. How Wynd Labs supports the Grass ecosystem Half Space Labs Ltd., which operates as Wynd Labs, isn’t a subsidiary of the Grass Foundation, so it doesn’t own any rights to Grass intellectual property, receive any revenues generated by Grass products, or exercise any control over the Grass Foundation or the Grass subsidiaries. In the early days of Grass development, Wynd Labs owned and built technology that has helped make the Grass ecosystem what it is today. But to ensure ownership and value stay within the ecosystem, before the GRASS token launch, Wynd Labs transferred all of its IP to Grass OpCo Ltd. As a team that’s worked on Grass for years, there are few as capable as Wynd Labs in supporting the ecosystem. They still offer that support today when it’s helpful, now as independent service providers. They’re compensated with fees for services rendered, and any and all intellectual property developed by Wynd Labs as a result is owned by Grass entities. Where Value Flows When a network runs commercial operations through a private company alongside the protocol, value can be extracted from an equity structure that sits above the network and token. That value leaves the network, and it often never comes back. Grass is structured to reject that self-defeating pattern. With all network assets owned and operated by Grass entities, value created flows within the Grass ecosystem, not to private equity. Revenue flows to Grass entities, the GRASS Token is the transaction and reward mechanism within the ecosystem, and the network supports it all. As Grass continues to become the information layer for intelligence, the value it creates stays with the people powering the network. It wouldn’t work any other way.
