DOJ IS NOT REOPENING A CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION INTO POWELL, ATTORNEY GENERAL BLANCHE SAYS
Blanche: "We're not reopening a criminal investigation into him," per an interview with Bloomberg. He did not rule out continuing to look into oversight of the Fed's $2.4B headquarters renovation and taking action if evidence of wrongdoing emerged.
The Fed inspector general's report this week found no evidence of criminal wrongdoing by Powell. Blanche said he was satisfied with the report but that Powell had not appropriately overseen the project. The Fed has said it will engage an independent auditor to review the building costs.
Trump asked Blanche on Wednesday to study the report and called for Powell to resign or be sued.
