When We Said Everything, We Meant It: September @Coinbase
Everything is a big word.
Last month, it covered IPO access, stablecoins moving into banks, tokenized stocks, and AI agents picking up new skills on Coinbase.
It also covered something entirely new.
Here's what happened @Coinbase in September ↓
The stock market has more entrances
Eligible US retail customers can now participate in IPOs through Coinbase.
Also in the works: single-stock perpetual futures, a first for traders in the US.
Separately, Coinbase Tokenized Stocks on Base crossed $1 billion in volume in their first month. And eligible tokenized stocks can also now serve as collateral for USDC borrowing on Aave.
And if your starting point is a ticker on X, Cashtags now connect it to trading on Coinbase.
One fewer window. Exactly the same number of opinions.
More banks are getting an onchain connection
We announced a partnership with Citi to bring stablecoin acceptance to institutions.
With Stablecore, we’re working to bring digital asset custody, trading, and payments into community banks and credit unions.
And with Moov, we’re building stablecoin infrastructure for more than 1,000 small and community banks, covering acceptance, settlement, and real-time funding.
Sending money home also got a lot easier.
Modveon’s Sivar now lets US users send money to El Salvador for a flat $2, including the transfer and cash-out, using Coinbase infrastructure and Base.
A new asset is joining the lineup
That’s all we’re saying for now.
AiFi is moving into more chats
Coinbase for Agents added access to equities, now alongside crypto and derivatives. With x402, agents can also pay for market data mid-task while carrying out your directions.
That access expanded into more of the tools people already use: Grok, a one-click Coinbase connector in Perplexity Computer, and Muse.
You still set the directions, permissions, and guardrails - the agent works inside them.
If you’ve ever asked AI to do a task and received homework, this one’s for you.
Borrowing got more options
Eligible customers can now borrow up to $100,000 against HYPE or ZEC without selling those assets.
We also introduced fixed-rate Bitcoin-backed loans. The rate and repayment dates are set before you borrow.
Plot twists are fun, but your repayment date should not be one.
A familiar name, and a few useful changes
Base App became Coinbase Wallet.
A good month for anyone who never stopped calling it that.
Later in the month, Coinbase Wallet added prediction markets, powered by Polymarket.
Every group chat has a forecaster. Now it has a market.
Coinbase Advanced reworked its fees, with volume-based tiers starting at $10,000 rather than $25,000. Spot and derivatives volume can both count toward your tier, and USDC holdings can qualify you for VIP Plus.
Onchain USDC rewards expanded to Brazil and Canada.
And, Coinbase One USDC rewards increased to 3.75% APY.
Charts also got more customizable: line or candlestick, price or market cap, and views by asset type.
It seems like the Y-axis is listening to some of your requests too.
Not everything needs to stay online
We partnered with Microsoft in a global effort to disrupt EvilTokens, an AI-powered cybercrime platform.
The work included investigating its infrastructure, taking down domains, and helping police arrest its operators.
In the words of @emiliemc, FAFO.
The arguments are coming out of the group chat
In August, we asked who should compete in a live, old-school-versus-new-school trading showdown.
It’s happening: ten traders, $150,000 on the line. Our first in-person, esports-style trading competition, streamed live from Singapore.
Mundo Dodgeball is also coming to real life. League of Legends players start with 1v1s on the Rift, and top players will head to the World Championship in New York with 1 Bitcoin on the line for the champion.
Different kind of positioning.
And that’s September.
October already has a broadcast schedule.
Until next time.
