TRUMP CALLS FOR POWELL TO RESIGN FROM THE FED BOARD AFTER INSPECTOR GENERAL'S REPORT ON HEADQUARTERS RENOVATION
Trump says the report found "deficiencies in the management of the renovation project," and that the cost will reach at least $2.5B. He says he has asked Attorney General Todd Blanche to study the report and determine what to do, and that if Powell does not resign, he should be sued by the government "for either corruption or incompetence."
Trump quotes the report as finding the Board did not obtain a project cost estimate from the construction manager until January 2026, 3.5 years after construction began and after more than $2B in construction costs had been awarded, and that as of July 2026 it had yet to set a guaranteed maximum price.
