Secretary of State Marco Rubio says Greenland is "more important today than ever before" as competition intensifies in the Arctic.
Rubio points to China and other countries seeking greater influence over emerging Arctic shipping routes, while stressing Greenland's strategic role in space operations and missile defense.
His comments come after President Trump secured an agreement with Denmark and Greenland expanding permanent U.S. military access while barring China, Russia and other non-NATO countries from establishing a military presence on the island.
"Greenland is incredibly important for all of North America," Rubio says.
