Introducing Ondo Intelligent Portfolios

Introducing Ondo Intelligent Portfolios, a suite of professionally designed investment portfolios, each built into a single onchain token. The first three portfolios launched are based on portfolio strategies developed by BlackRock for Ondo, marking the first time exposure to such portfolio strategies has been made available to onchain investors.

As we've mentioned before, much of the work we've been doing over the past few years has been about improving access:
Access to dollars that pay interest, through USDY
Access to US stocks and ETFs, through Ondo Stocks
Access to capital-efficient levered derivatives, through Ondo Perps
Access to infrastructure fast and private enough to enable institutional-grade trading of those assets, through the Ondo Network.
But providing access to assets was only ever the first step; access to financial services was always just as important.¹
For most people, long-term wealth is built by holding a sensible, diversified portfolio over time — a mix of assets that, together, capture broad economic growth as it compounds.
Doing that well has typically taken ongoing judgment: which assets to hold and in what proportion, when to rebalance, how to layer exposures, when to time sales, how to manage tax, and more. That's continuous work, and most people don't have the time or tools to do it consistently. Ondo Intelligent Portfolios close that gap, bringing institutional portfolio construction approaches to a single onchain token – without the need for any ongoing work.
One Token. One Decision. A Whole Portfolio.
An Ondo Intelligent Portfolio is a professionally designed onchain portfolio based on a defined investment strategy. Instead of assembling and maintaining a basket of individual positions yourself, you can mint or redeem a single token that gives you exposure to a precise, transparent, and professionally designed portfolio of underlying assets.
It works in three layers:
Based on a portfolio strategy. A third party, starting with BlackRock, or Ondo itself - supplies a portfolio allocation or strategy. Ondo determines how that model is implemented within the Ondo product and executes rebalancing pursuant to the product's rules.
Ondo implements the model programmatically. The underlying positions are Ondo Stocks: tokenized equities and ETFs backed by real securities sourced from real market liquidity. Allocation, rebalancing, and fee logic of the Intelligent Portfolios are encoded into smart contracts and executed automatically. By following preset rules on a defined schedule, Intelligent Portfolios removes human emotion from the decision.
You hold one token. Mint or redeem to move your exposure in or out. Nothing for you to weigh or rebalance.
Buying, holding, and rebalancing a basket of many assets is expensive and takes time to monitor and execute. An Intelligent Portfolio does that work programmatically, executed through Ondo's institutional trading infrastructure so the portfolio tracks its model closely and at low cost.

These Ondo Intelligent Portfolios have their assets and target weights set at inception and are rebalanced on a fixed schedule.

Ondo Intelligent Portfolios unlock many of the same benefits that have traditionally only been available from asset managers, and are built natively onchain:

Moreover, because an Intelligent Portfolio is a token, it can collateralize a DeFi lending or perps position, power an earn product, or be held inside another Intelligent Portfolio. And of course users can assemble their own portfolio of Ondo Intelligent Portfolios as well.
The Best of DeFi and TradFi, Combined
Traditional ETFs offer institutional strategies and diversified exposure with the deep liquidity of public markets, but they're confined to market hours, gated by geography, and the details of what’s happening inside of them are often opaque between their periodic disclosures. On the other side, RWA vaults are widely available, programmatic, and self-custodial, but typically lack equity exposure and are often subject to exit queues and liquidity gates.
Intelligent Portfolios build on the best features of both: the diversification and design of an institutional model portfolio made available via a single token that's freely transferable peer-to-peer, composable in DeFi 24/7, fully transparent onchain, and with the underlying assets (including equities) connected to traditional markets.

When the Pieces Compound
Over the past few years, we've been engineering out the individual product lines that bring individual traditional financial assets onchain. This has undoubtedly been a tremendous advance. But we also believe that the real power of this approach begins when one allows these products to interact with each other. For example, the use of Ondo Stocks as collateral on Ondo Perps improves capital efficiency.
Ondo Intelligent Portfolios is the latest example of this: the more stocks and ETFs that Ondo tokenizes, the more asset options Intelligent Portfolios have to choose from. And as we move to more dynamic portfolios and bring additional asset types onchain – perps, spot crypto, options, futures, and more, each of those becomes something an Intelligent Portfolio can hold, allowing for more sophisticated portfolios tailored to clients’ exact needs. For example, a single global growth portfolio could hold US and international ETFs as its core, use leverage to bolster returns while using perps to hedge risk and a small memecoin allocation for upside optionality, all while using an options overlay on top to generate income, and a set of prediction market bets to manage global macro tail risk. Today, that would mean juggling a crypto wallet, a prediction market account, a brokerage account, a derivatives account, and options desk across multiple jurisdictions; with Ondo Intelligent Portfolios it can all live in a single token.
From Access to Allocation
Eighteen months ago we wrote that nearly all of the benefits of public blockchains reduce to one thing: access. We still think that's right.
Access to assets has always been where it needed to start. But now that more and more assets are becoming accessible, providing access to services for those assets is the next logical step. The kinds of portfolio construction that Intelligent Portfolios enables has, until now, largely been only accessible to ultra-high-net-worth individuals and institutions. These same kinds of portfolios will now be available to nearly anyone with an internet connection; no private banker or eight-figure balances required.
